Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation
The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew McDonough, a 14 year old athlete and ‘A’ student at Salesianum HS from Wilmington, Delaware. Andrew went from playing four soccer games on January 27, 2007 to cardiac arrest and a diagnosis of leukemia and sepsis just 48 hours later. Andrew’s blood type and the family’s motto was, and continues to be, “B+” …“Be Positive”. Andrew’s valiant journey was chronicled by local and national media and his website received over 1,000,000 hits in the first six months. Andrew went to Heaven on July 14, 2007. Inspired by Andrew's caring attitude and positive outlook, we established the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. There are 3 objectives, but the overarching goal is to "Do Good" ... as Andrew did!

Choose My Plate... from the USDA
“This is a quick, simple reminder for all of us to be more mindful of the foods that we’re eating and as a mom, I can already tell how much this is going to help parents across the country,” said First Lady Michelle Obama. “When mom or dad comes home from a long day of work, we’re already asked to be a chef, a referee, a cleaning crew. So it’s tough to be a nutritionist, too. But we do have time to take a look at our kids’ plates. As long as they’re half full of fruits and vegetables, and paired with lean proteins, whole grains and low-fat dairy, we’re golden. That’s how easy it is.”
ChooseMyPlate.gov provides practical information to individuals, health professionals, nutrition educators, and the food industry to help consumers build healthier diets with resources and tools for dietary assessment, nutrition education, and other user-friendly nutrition information. As Americans are experiencing epidemic rates of overweight and obesity, the online resources and tools can empower people to make healthier food choices for themselves, their families, and their children. Later this year, USDA will unveil an exciting “go-to” online tool that consumers can use to personalize and manage their dietary and physical activity choices.

Parents Step Up
Our children are our future – our responsibility.
Whether they’ll admit it or not, they look to us to keep them safe and healthy, to nurture them and let them thrive in strong, stable communities. Our first line of defense is prevention – we have to do all we can to protect children from harmful behaviors.
The Step Up campaign urges parents – and all adults – to play a more active role in preventing underage drinking. Underage drinking in Delaware is a problem. The data shows us that ONE in FOUR youth begins drinking before the age of 13. TWO in THREE eleventh graders drink. We need to try to reverse these trends.

We have a seat waiting for you, and from that seat, you'll see the past as never
before. History will come alive, senses will be excited, and a forgotten era
